First Friday Artwalk: March 2020
SouthWind Art Gallery (3074 SW 29th): Fine art, food, and live music! Join us this Friday for a showcase of art by impressionist painter Jessie Rasche. Jessie feels a deep connection with the land, one she tries to instill in each of her unique portraits of land and animals. Her paintings have an almost meditative quality to them. The artist will be talking in detail about her work and inspiration at the opening. And don't miss great music by pianist Luke Scheibmeir!

Amused (907 N Kansas): For the 7th year, Amused is hosting local artists and their vision of SciFi and/or Fantasy art. It's a fun grouping that always surprises us. The show will be on display from March First Friday Art Walk until the end of the month. Be sure to stop in and see what’s going on in our ten working artist studios. Regular business hours are Wed. 1-5, Thur. 1-6, Fri. 11-6, Sat. 11-5.

Beauchamp's Gallery (3113 SW Huntoon): Beauchamp's will open a new exhibit - Regional Art 1900 - 1970, featuring Prairie Printmakers. In addition to a dozen prints by the likes of Birger Sandzen, Chili Capps, & Margaret Whittemore, there will be an excellent selection of paintings by Helen Hodge, Oscar Larmar and many more including a rare 1949 watercolor by Robert Sudlow. The show will be on display through mid-April.

Bedsprings And Burlap (837 SW Fairlawn): First Friday Paint Club! Bring your own small (3' x 4') piece of furniture or small (frame, drawers from a dresser) project from home and give it a face lift. $20 for the night. Registration is on our website. Pop In And Paint in our Maker's Studio. No registration required. Paint a laser cut St. Patrick's Day project $8.50 or paint and make laser cut wood earrings for $6. ArtsConnect (909 N Kansas): Come visit us in our new space! ArtsConnect will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening at 6p on Friday, March 6th at 909 N Kansas during the ArtsConnect First Friday Artwalk. Enjoy an exhibition of artwork on display in partnership with SouthWind Gallery and music by Til Willis. Featured artists are Zak Barnes, Stan Herd, Johne Richardson, Cristine Sundquist, Cathie Thompson and David Zlotky.

Glaciers Edge Winery (1636 SE 85th): Kick off March with an evening at the winery. We have THREE brand new wines for you to try, Friction, Vignoles and Valvin Muscat. Our featured live entertainment will be The Good Sam Club Band and Lago Vista Grill will have food for sale inside our kitchen! Enjoy wine and slushies by the pour or a bottle while enjoying live music and fantastic food. We will be open late to celebrate First Friday!

NOTO Arts Center (935 N Kansas): Inside the Morris Gallery at the NOTO Arts Center, Kathy Pflaum wows us again with her unique compilation of metals, fabric, and collage. ‘Softer Sides of Metal,’ is a marriage of metal blended with textiles and fibers. These diverse materials work together to bring out the softer edge of the metal, creating a unique juxtaposition of materials.
Monette Mark, owner of Fire Me Up Ceramics is the NOTO featured artist for March. Mark received her BA from Washburn University in 2003 and her MFA from Wichita State University in Wichita, KS, in 2009. She has studied contemporary art and art history in New Zealand and Australia — and on several occasions has exhibited work in national and international juried shows and galleries.

Topeka High (800 SW 10th): This month, Topeka High will be showcasing our talented students in two locations! We will be showing new student work from the beginning of the second semester at Topeka High's 3rd floor gallery. Work shown in the gallery will consist of new pieces from the various media taught at Topeka High. Make sure to enter on Western St side and head up to the Third Floor gallery.
Our second location will be Matryoshka Tattoo where we will be showing work from the end of first semester and beginning of second semester. Make sure to stop by either location to see the talented work of Topeka High students!

Topeka Art Guild & Gallery (Fairlawn Plaza): Spring is on the way at TAG. We invite you to visit our gallery where member artists show a wide variety of colorful works; oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography and textile art. Our gift shop has bronze sculptures, wood, jewelry, gourd art, glass and original cards for sending. Featured artist is Connie English, watercolor artist, known for her beautiful chicken art, landscapes and more. Art students from Washburn Rural High School will show in March.
Senior students please check with our gallery for scholarship applications due in April. Regular hours are Wed-Sat. Please join our artists for food and drinks during the First Friday Artwalk.

Creations of Hope Gallery (727 S Kansas): Downtown businesses are looking to get into the spirit of spring. Warmer weather, March Madness, St. Patrick's Day and more. Grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants, shop for some great gifts, and view the beautiful artwork! Each business will incorporate their own unique experience during the March First Friday Art Walk.
Join us at Creations of Hope to celebrate Elizabeth Pearce's creative spirit on March 6th! Elizabeth says of her work, "Making art and crafty art is a hobby and social awareness for me. I develop skills and enjoy being a part of the art community. This also helps me with developing strength and hope inner-personally toward good mental health and recovery."

NexLynx Gallery (123 SW 6th): Our opening reception features the works of selected students of all ages from Cair Paravel Latin School, displaying a variety of pieces in many different mediums including graphite, pastel, watercolor and mixed media. Each of the pieces are both evidence of the progression of the visual art program at Cair Paravel and the students desire to make art. Jump into spring and get into the Irish Spirit as we are serving Irish themed and “greenish” snacks and drinks.

Two Wolves Studio & Artist Den (114 SW 8th, Suite 2): Sui Generis - of his, her, its, or their own kind; unique. The term is widely used to refer to more esoteric entities in a number of disciplines, including creative arts, where an artistic work goes beyond conventional genre boundaries. Our Featured Artist is Angela Lexow originally from Topeka, KS. She graduated from Baker University in 1995 after studying studio art and art history. After graduation, she began working in a downtown Kansas City gallery as an assistant director.
